Working Channel

noun

Definition

A Working Channel is a common feature on Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention inspection scopes. In addition to being able to inspect components, FOD prevention scopes allow the passage of tools that can perform limited tasks through the borescope’s insertion tube. Material retrieval, brushing, suction, spraying, and probing are some of the tasks that a Working Channel can perform. Most frequently used for material retrieval, Working Channels have tiny claws, magnets, or hooks that are utilized to retrieve any debris that may be present inside machinery.
